Andrew Ko

Andrew is the World Wide Public Sector Managing Director for AWS Global Education. He is responsible for WWPS Global Education Strategy, Programs, and driving the overall Education business in the U.S.  AWS’ is driving innovative solutions with cloud based solutions for STEM initiatives, improving student outcomes and enabling the workforce.

Prior to joining Amazon, Andrew was the Corporate Vice President of Samsung Global Education and then took over the Electronic B2B Enterprise Business for mobile products and solutions for the European region consisting of $3BN in revenue, 37 countries and 17 subsidiaries for sales of Samsung Mobile products and solutions. He also incubated key solutions for Education, and Connected Car – Internet of Things.

Prior to Samsung, Andrew was the General Manager for Microsoft Corporation’s U.S. Education business.  His work included implementing large K-12 state-wide education cloud solution initiatives, modernizing student information systems, promoting STEM and Computer Science through public / private partnerships, and designing teacher professional development for technology use in the classroom.  He also led the White House ConnectED initiative enabling a billion-dollar technology investment towards the U.S. education K-12 system that was recognized during President Obama’s State of the Union.

Before joining Microsoft, Andrew had a diverse background, including business development, consulting, financial accounting and corporate restructuring, serving in positions across the U.S. and international markets. He is a veteran of the Big Six consulting industry, including positions at Deloitte Touché Tohmatsu Emerging Markets Group and KPMG Consulting.

At KPMG, Andrew worked with the U.S. Department of Education, leading a project team focused on business process improvement, risk analysis and policy implementation. Notably, he recommended and integrated policy reforms to the Department of Education’s Office of Postsecondary Education division on Title IV funding, saving millions of taxpayer dollars.

In January 2014, Governor Terry McAuliffe appointed Andrew as a member of the Virginia State Board of Education where he assisted in setting statewide curriculum standards; establishing high school graduation requirements; determining qualifications for classroom teachers; establishing state testing and assessment programs. In 2016, Governor McAuliffe appointed Andrew to Virginia’s School Readiness Committee addressing the development and alignment of an effective professional development and credentialing system for the early childhood education workforce in the Commonwealth.

Andrew participates in various nonprofit boards including Northern Virginia Community College Foundation, Fairfax County Public Schools Foundation. Andrew earned his B.S. in Accounting from the University of Maryland and was a Certified Public Accountant. He and his wife have three children residing in Loudoun County, Virginia. In his spare time, he enjoys volunteering and always encourages others to participate in their communities.
