Bruce Meyer has been Founder and President of Meyer Group Insurance (“MGI”) since 1993. MGI is a full spectrum insurance brokerage firm, headquartered in Virginia Beach, specializing in Employee Benefits Solutions and Executive Benefits in Hampton Roads as well as throughout the United States. Recognized as a leader in his industry, Bruce is often called upon at the state and federal level for his knowledge of insurance matters. 
Bruce and his wife, Connie, publish Hampton Roads Weekly (HRW), a community newspaper which prints monthly and weekly online. HRW focuses on community news, business, culture, politics, lifestyle and entertainment.
Prior to 1993, Mr. Meyer has had numerous years of retail and corporate business experience. He 
served in many executive positions with a large 500 store national retailer, The Great American Cookie Company. As Corporate Troubleshooter and Regional Manager, he excelled in managerial recruitment, franchise training, and marketing.
Bruce was appointed to a four-year term by Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore in 2001 to the State Board for Community Colleges. As chairman of the Academic, Student Affairs and Workforce Development committees, Bruce helped the implementation of the Virginia Community College Guaranteed Transfer Program. This highly applauded program guarantees acceptance to any of Virginia’s public four-year Universities after successful completion of the Community College program.
After Bruce’s State Board of Community College term expired, he was then unanimously appointed by Virginia Beach City Council in 2006 to serve as a member of the Board of Directors for Tidewater Community College. He served on the Executive Committee and was Chairman of the Advocacy and Advancement Committee.
In July 2010, Bruce Meyer was appointed by Governor Bob McDonnell to a new four-year term to the State Board of Community Colleges. He served on the Academic, Student Affairs, Workforce 
Development, and the Facility committees. He also chaired the Audit and Personnel Committee. In 2012 he was elected Vice Chairman of the State Board of Community Colleges. In 2013 he was elected as Chairman of the State Board of Community Colleges. Bruce’s role on the State Board for Community Colleges was to oversee the operations of all 23 of Virginia’s Community Colleges as well as its $1.5 Billion budget. 
In 2011, Bruce helped to launch the first ever Tidewater Community College Alumni Association and served on its Board of Directors for 5 years. 

In 2022, Bruce was once again appointed to the State Board for Community Colleges by Governor Glenn Youngkin. He currently serves on the Budget and Finance Committee and the Workforce Education Committee.


Bruce is a past chairman of Prevent Child Abuse Hampton Roads. Bruce was awarded Citizen Advocate of the Year for the Commonwealth of Virginia. He has been featured several times in “Inside Business” and was awarded by Inside Business their “Top 40 Under 40 Award”.
